Thesis Timeline and Deadlines
1. The RESEARCH COORDINATOR has a thesis meeting with STUDENTS to hand out the
Student Paper and Thesis Handbooks---FALL QUARTER OF FIRST YEAR.
2. As assignments in Research in Psychology---CP 620, the STUDENT submits two copies
of a THESIS PROPOSAL, two copies of the ETHICS APPLICATION, and three choices for
FACULTY THESIS ADVISOR---DUE WITH FIRST SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS. (Completion of
Research in Psychology---CP 620. Enrollment in Directed Research I---CP 650 in Fall,
2nd year.)
3. The RESEARCH COORDINATOR returns the thesis proposal and announces the FACULTY
THESIS ADVISORS---FALL QUARTER OF SECOND YEAR.
4. The STUDENT reads extensively in the chosen area and meets monthly with the
FACULTY THESIS ADVISOR to clarify issues to be addressed---THROUGHOUT SECOND
YEAR OF PROGRAM.
5. A THESIS OUTLINE is submitted to the FACULTY THESIS ADVISOR. It designates how the
STUDENT plans to organize the thesis---DUE WITH SECOND SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS.
(Completion of Directed Research I---CP 650. Enrollment in Directed Research II---CP
651 in Fall, 3rd year.)
6. The STUDENT submits the FIRST FULLY EDITED FULL LENGTH DRAFT of the thesis to the
FACULTY THESIS ADVISOR---JANUARY 15 of third year.
7. The STUDENT submits a REVISED FULLY EDITED DRAFT to the FACULTY THESIS
ADVISOR. If approved, it is passed by the FACULTY THESIS ADVISOR to the RESEARCH
COORDINATOR for final review---FEBRUARY 15 of third year.
8. The STUDENT submits ONE UNBOUND and THREE BOUND COPIES of the thesis to the
RESEARCH COORDINATOR---MARCH 31 of third year. (Completion of Directed Research
II---CP 651.)
9. During commencement weekend the STUDENT may choose to present a BRIEF SYNOPSIS
of the thesis to the Pacifica Graduate Institute Community.
Above is the schedule that allows the STUDENT to 'walk' at Commencement Ceremonies on Memorial Day weekend. This includes STUDENTS who enrolled at the time indicated above for Directed Research II---CP 651 in Fall, 3rd year and includes STUDENTS who enrolled early for Directed Research II---CP 651 in Summer, 2nd year.

Below is the schedule for STUDENTS who do not complete their thesis in time to 'walk' at Commencement Ceremonies but that enables the posting of the degree by June 30th which is the final day possible for completion of Directed Research II---CP 651 for those who enrolled Fall, 3rd year.
10. The STUDENT submits the FIRST FULLY EDITED FULL LENGTH DRAFT of the thesis to
the FACULTY THESIS ADVISOR---APRIL 15 of third year.
11. The STUDENT submits a FULLY EDITED REVISED DRAFT to the FACULTY THESIS
ADVISOR. If approved, it is passed by the FACULTY THESIS ADVISOR to the RESEARCH
COORDINATOR for final review---MAY 15 of third year.
12. The STUDENT submits ONE UNBOUND and THREE BOUND COPIES of the thesis to the
RESEARCH COORDINATOR--JUNE 30 of third year.

Below is the process for STUDENTS who signed up for Directed Research II---CP 651 in Fall, 3rd year and do not complete their thesis by the end of Directed Research II
CP 651 on JUNE 30.
13. The STUDENT enrolls in Extension on Directed Research II--CP 653 on a quarterly
basis (in those quarters in which the student will do active work on the thesis) until a
FULLY EDITED REVISED DRAFT is approved by the FACULTY THESIS ADVISOR, is passed
on to the RESEARCH COORDINATOR for final review, and the STUDENT submits ONE
UNBOUND and THREE BOUND COPIES of the thesis to the RESEARCH COORDINATOR.

Below is the process for STUDENTS who signed up for Directed Research II---CP 651 in Summer, 2nd year and do not complete their thesis by the end of Directed Research II---CP 651 on March 31.
14. The STUDENT enrolls in Extension on Directed Research II--CP 653 on a quarterly
basis (in those quarters in which the student will do active work on the thesis) until a
FULLY EDITED REVISED DRAFT is approved by the FACULTY THESIS ADVISOR, is passed
on to the RESEARCH COORDINATOR for final review, and the STUDENT submits ONE
UNBOUND and THREE BOUND COPIES of the thesis to the RESEARCH COORDINATOR.
